I was honoured to be part of Tasmanian Community Landcare Conference in Triabunna, TAS, 13-15 October 2023. I was invited as a speaker and made a presentation titled "Local Knowledge For Community-Based Social Resilience - A Case Of Drought Adaption In Japan". This was based on my research which exemplified the effectiveness of local farmers' traditional knowledge to adapt to droughts. My point was that traditional knowledge is sometimes regarded as "pre-modern", but it plays a key role in mitigating and adapting to the negative impact of droughts.
It was a great opportunity for me to share my research on drought adaptation in the Sanuki Plain, Japan. I appreciate Peter Stronach, the CEO of the Landcare TAS, and his brilliant team staff for their warm offer to participate in this conference.
The venue, Spring Bay Mill, was beautiful, and my wife and I enjoyed our stay there. One of my good memories there was coming across a cute wombat near my tent!
